Cities such as Newark, Clifton, Jersey City and Fairfield account for 67% of the state's manufacturing base.
Highly urbanized and in close proximity to New York City, the region hosts dozens of multibillion-dollar companies. The remainder of the state adds up to 33% of the manufacturing capacity, with the southeast and southwest accounting for 9% and 10%, respectively.
Newark remains the state’s largest city by number of manufacturing jobs, home to 8,008 workers. Second-ranked Whippany accounts for 7,167. Other top cities in New Jersey include:
