100643_newplantsMay2026

In March and April, we reported on the continued buildout of AI infrastructure, pharmaceutical capacity, and defense production across the United States. In May, that momentum not only held but deepened, with several of the country's most consequential industrial announcements of the year arriving in a single month. Life sciences dominated investments, with a pharmaceutical giant opening its first dedicated genetic medicine facility, a nuclear innovator breaking ground on the world's largest actinium-225 plant, and a stem cell pioneer opening a new iPSC headquarters, all in the span of weeks.

And in another major development, quantum computing crossed a threshold in May, with the United States announcing its first purpose-built quantum chip foundry. Defense manufacturing continued to expand, and major announcements in materials and recycling pointed to a broader reshoring of critical industrial supply chains.

Spanning more than ten states and and representing tens of billions in investment, here are the latest new plants and expansions announced across the U.S. in May 2026.
