New U.S. Manufacturing Operations Announced in January

U.S. manufacturers started off the year with a bang, announcing a raft of new enterprises, from new semiconductor facilities in New York and food processing plants in Arizona to new investments in the aerospace, electric vehicle and construction materials industries. Spanning eleven states and representing billions in investment and thousands of new jobs, these are the most exciting new operations announced in January.

Semiconductors & Advanced Technology

GlobalFoundries to Establish Advanced Packaging and Photonics Center in New York

GlobalFoundries (GF) will invest $575 million to create the New York Advanced Packaging and Photonics Center at its Malta manufacturing facility, with an additional $186 million allocated for R&D over the next decade. This expansion is expected to create 102 new full-time jobs in the Capital Region over the next five years. The new center will enhance GF’s advanced packaging capabilities, crucial for the design and manufacture of chips used in AI, automotive, aerospace, and defense industries.

“We’re proud to partner at the state and federal level on this new center, which is a direct response to our customers asking for more geodiversity in their supply chains and additional support with advanced packaging solutions for GF silicon photonics, Trusted and 3D/HI offerings,” said Dr. Thomas Caulfield, President and CEO of GlobalFoundries. The facility will be supported by up to $20 million from New York State and $75 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Corning to Invest $315 Million in North Country Facility, Creating 300 Jobs

Corning Incorporated, a global leader in specialty glass and ceramics, will invest up to $315 million to expand its facility in Canton, New York. This investment is expected to create up to 130 new manufacturing jobs and 175 construction jobs. The expanded facility will produce High Purity Fused Silica (HPFS) and EXTREME Ultra Low Expansion (ULE) glass, essential components for deep ultraviolet (DUV) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines and photomasks used in semiconductor manufacturing.

“This strategic investment will enable our Canton, N.Y. facility’s continued growth and the expansion of next-generation manufacturing capabilities necessary for producing critical materials for lithography tools that create the world’s most advanced microchips,” said Wendell Weeks, Chairman and CEO of Corning Incorporated.

Lithium Battery Company Expands in Tampa with New Manufacturing Facility

Lithium Battery Company, a local renewable energy company, is expanding its business with a new lithium battery pack manufacturing facility in South Tampa. The company has leased 65,000 square feet at 5201 S. Westshore Blvd. and plans to create 50 new high-tech jobs over the next three years. The new facility, equipped with fully automated production lines, will manufacture both cylindrical and prismatic lithium battery packs for a wide array of applications, from small-scale electronic devices to large commercial energy storage systems.

“Our goal is to lead the way in setting benchmarks for urban renewable energy technology and resources, and Tampa is the ideal launchpad for this initiative,” said Nathan Staron, CEO and Founder of Lithium Battery Company. The facility is set to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2025.

Ionomr Innovations Opens Boston Development and Manufacturing Center

Ionomr Innovations Inc., a global leader in hydrocarbon PFAS-free ion exchange materials, has announced the opening of its new development and low-volume manufacturing facility at Hood Park in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The 22,000-square-foot facility will significantly scale up production capacity, enabling the company to produce 750,000 square meters of membrane product per year for up to 10 gigawatts of annual production. This expansion is expected to create over 40 new jobs in the next three years.

“Ionomr’s continued expansion is core to the company’s strategy to develop and manufacture innovative world-class sustainable products,” said Bill Haberlin, Chief Executive Officer of Ionomr Innovations. The facility features state-of-the-art equipment, including cutting-edge coating equipment and fuel cell and electrolyzer test stations, to support the seamless transition from prototypes to initial production runs.

Panasonic Opens New Facility in Rochester, Enhancing Production Capabilities

Panasonic opens new facility in Rochester

Panasonic Industrial IOT Solutions Group has opened a new facility in Rochester, New York, designed to enhance its Logiscend system’s testing, production simulation, and administrative capabilities. This state-of-the-art facility includes an extensive production line testing area, allowing Panasonic to design, engineer, and test solution enhancements for manufacturers without disrupting current production lines. The new facility aims to improve overall equipment effectiveness and optimize material flow, supporting Panasonic’s commitment to innovation and quality.

“Moving to this new facility simplifies and streamlines collaboration, rapid testing, and implementation planning before customers adopt a new solution,” said Michael Buonaccorso, Group Manager, Panasonic Industrial IOT Solutions. The facility officially opened on January 16, 2025.

Aerospace

Pratt & Whitney Expands Asheville Plant, Creating 325 Jobs

Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business (NYSE: RTX), will expand its turbine airfoil manufacturing plant in Asheville, North Carolina, with an additional investment of $285 million. This expansion will create 325 new jobs, enhancing the company’s production capacity to meet growing customer demand for products such as the GTF for the A320 family and the F135 for the F-35 Lightning II.

“Pratt & Whitney’s continued investment in Asheville is critical to meet the growing demand for our products,” said Dan Field, Asheville General Manager for Pratt & Whitney. The new positions will bring an annual payroll impact of more than $20 million to the community.

Automotive

Modine to Open New Plant in Wisconsin Creating 200 Jobs

Modine, a global leader in thermal management technologies, will be opening a new plant in Franklin, WI. The 153,000-square-foot facility, located at 3303 West Oakwood Road, will produce thermal management systems for specialty and commercial electric vehicles, including fire trucks, last-mile delivery vehicles, municipal buses, and construction equipment. This expansion is expected to create 200 full-time jobs by 2029. The City of Franklin has supported the project with $1.6 million in tax increment financing.

“We have an established history of a wide-range of manufacturing businesses that call the City of Franklin home and securing this partnership with Modine confirms we are attracting the best these industries have to offer,” said John Nelson, Mayor of Franklin. Modine plans to move into the facility in 2025.

Nitto to Open New Facility in Kentucky Creating 220 Jobs

Nitto, a global developer of advanced technology and provider of products for automotive, electronics, and aerospace industries, will open a new multimillion-dollar facility in Frankfort, Kentucky. The new plant, located at 120 Fortune Drive in Franklin County’s Industrial Park 3, will create 220 full-time jobs. The facility will provide additional production space to meet growing customer demand and is set to begin full-scale production in spring 2025.

Nucor to Build $200 Million Facility in Utah, Creating 200 Jobs

Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced that its Towers & Structures business unit will build a new $200 million utility structures production facility in Brigham City, Utah. This state-of-the-art facility, located on Nucor’s existing Brigham City campus, is expected to create 200 full-time jobs. The new plant will produce utility structures to meet the growing demand for utility infrastructure in the western U.S., driven by distributed energy projects, data centers, and population growth.

“Nucor has a strong presence in the West and locating this new facility in Utah positions us to meet growing demand for utility infrastructure in the region resulting from distributed energy projects, data centers, and population growth,” said Leon Topalian, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation. The facility will be highly automated and will receive raw materials from Nucor steel mills via rail.

ISCO Industries to Open New Facility in Louisville, Creating 50 Jobs

ISCO Industries Inc., a global provider of piping materials, will expand its footprint in Louisville with a $12.75 million investment that will create 50 full-time jobs. The new operation on Johnsontown Road will enhance the company’s fabrication capabilities, supporting its continued growth. Work on the project is expected to begin in June 2025 and be completed by June 2026.

“ISCO is proud to make an investment in innovation here in Kentucky,” said Mark Kirchdorfer, president of ISCO Industries. “As we prepare for future growth, we will continually invest back into the business.” Established in 1962, ISCO Industries produces high-density polyethylene structures such as manholes, tanks, fittings, and geothermal vaults.

IKO Announces New Granule Facility in Missouri, Creating 50 Jobs

IKO, a global leader in manufacturing residential shingles, commercial roofing, and waterproofing products, has announced plans to open a new granule facility for its subsidiary, Bismarck Granules, in Bismarck, Missouri. The company is investing more than $120 million in the new facility, which will directly supply granules to IKO’s shingle plants across the U.S. This expansion is set to create over 50 new jobs in the region.

“We are tremendously excited to see this important project proceeding,” said David Koschitzky, CEO of IKO North America. The facility, which will be supported by a nearby quarry, is expected to open in 2026 and will strengthen the local economy by leveraging Bismarck’s skilled workforce and strategic location.

Superior Glove Selects High Point, NC for First US Manufacturing Facility

Superior Glove, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of safety gloves and sleeves, has chosen High Point, North Carolina, for its first manufacturing facility in the United States. The company will lease a 45,000-square-foot warehouse at 782 Gallimore Dairy Road, making a significant capital investment and creating over 100 jobs in the next five years. Superior Glove specializes in providing work gloves and personal protective equipment (PPE) to various markets, including industrial, welding, contractor, and specialty sectors.

“This is an exciting milestone for Superior Glove as we expand our operations to better meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Tony Geng, President of Superior Glove. “High Point’s talented workforce and strategic location make it an ideal choice for our first U.S. manufacturing facility, and we’re eager to build lasting partnerships within the community.”

Greenville Manufacturing to Invest $16.2 Million in Kentucky Facility, Creating 250 Jobs

Greenville Manufacturing Kentucky, a maker of equipment for the agriculture, forest products, and biomass sectors, will relocate to a new facility in Muhlenberg County with a $16.2 million investment. The new operation at Paradise Regional Industrial Park will create 250 full-time jobs. Construction is expected to begin this month and be completed by November of next year.

“This new facility was earned by the loyal, dedicated employees in Kentucky and the support of the community,” said Dane Floyd, CEO of Floyd Holdings. The new facility will allow continued growth in sales, outreach into new industries, and facilitate more in-house manufacturing and less outsourcing.

Food & Beverage

Il Pastaio to Open First U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Pennsylvania, Creating 74 Jobs

Il Pastaio, an Italian pasta manufacturer, will open its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Union County, Pennsylvania. The $12.5 million investment will construct a 71,300-square-foot facility at the Great Stream Commons business park, creating at least 74 new full-time jobs. This facility will expand Il Pastaio’s gnocchi manufacturing capabilities to meet growing demand in the United States.

“The opening of this plant is certainly an important step for Il Pastaio, but it also materializes the idea of making our contribution to the integration of the best Italian traditions with the energy and the agro-food culture of the United States,” said Pierluigi Colombi, CEO of Il Pastaio. The project is supported by a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development, including a $111,000 WEDnetPA grant and up to $72,200 in tax credits.

Leprino Foods Opens New Manufacturing Facility in Lubbock, Creating 600 Jobs

Leprino Foods Company, a global leader in premium-quality cheese and dairy ingredient production, has officially opened the first phase of its 850,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in East Lubbock in January. This state-of-the-art plant will produce mozzarella cheese and nutrition products, contributing significantly to the local economy. The facility represents a $1 billion investment and is expected to create more than 600 jobs by 2026.

“This year marks a significant milestone for our company – our 75th anniversary. It’s not only a celebration of our remarkable journey, but it is also a moment to envision our future, a future that includes Lubbock,” said Dan Vecchiarelli, Executive Chairman of Leprino Foods. The plant’s development is a major step forward in Lubbock’s industrial growth and diversification. The facility officially opened in January 2025.

Nestlé Opens State-of-the-Art Beverage Factory in Arizona Creating 300 Jobs

Nestlé USA has announced the grand opening of its new beverage factory and distribution center in Glendale, Arizona. The 630,000-square-foot facility, which represents an investment of over $675 million, will produce creamers for brands such as Coffee mate®, natural bliss®, and Starbucks®. This expansion is expected to create 300 full-time jobs in the Glendale community.

“Coffee culture is booming across the U.S. as consumers seek more options for customization and experimentation when it comes to their coffee at home. As the definitive leader in the refrigerated creamers space, we are focused on delivering on those consumer needs to drive the growth of our business and the category,” said Daniel Jhung, President of Coffee & Beverage for Nestlé USA.
