In December alone, companies announced billions of dollars in new U.S. factories and expansions, with projects ranging from pharmaceuticals to packaging, equipment and advanced materials. Many of these facilities are designed to on shore production, strengthen domestic supply chains and create thousands of skilled jobs. Eli Lilly Invests Over $6 Billion in Huntsville API Facility (Alabama)

Eli Lilly and Company revealed plans for a next generation synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) plant on a 100 acre site in Huntsville, Alabama. The project will bring 450 high value jobs and about 3,000 construction positions as part of a $6 billion investment that will manufacture small molecule and peptide medicines, including Lilly’s oral GLP 1 candidate orforglipron. Lilly Chair and CEO David A. Ricks said the region’s track record in science and advanced manufacturing made Alabama an ideal choice: “Huntsville’s track record of science and innovation, supported by advanced manufacturing expertise and a skilled workforce, makes Alabama an ideal location for Lilly to expand domestic manufacturing capacity for next generation medicines,” he noted; the investment continues onshoring of API production and “strengthens supply chain resilience and reliable access to medicines for patients in the U.S.”

Novartis Breaks Ground on 700 k sq ft Flagship Hub in North Carolina

Novartis began construction of its 700,000 square foot manufacturing hub in Durham and Morrisville, North Carolina. The hub, part of a multibillion dollar plan to localize radioligand therapy production, will create about 700 jobs. CEO Vas Narasimhan hailed the start of the project: “This announcement is a commitment to American innovation and to the patients we serve… By building a full, end to end manufacturing presence in North Carolina, we are expanding our capacity to deliver medical breakthroughs”

Samsung Biologics Acquires Its First U.S. Facility in Maryland

Samsung Biologics signed an agreement with GSK to acquire a 60,000 liter manufacturing site in Rockville, Maryland—its first U.S. plant—and will invest further to expand capacity. CEO John Rim called the move a landmark for the CDMO: “This landmark acquisition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to advancing global healthcare and bolstering our manufacturing capabilities in the U.S.”

TempraMed Opens U.S. Facility for Temperature Controlled Medical Devices (Florida)

Israeli health tech firm TempraMed opened a new U.S. manufacturing facility in Florida to produce temperature controlled storage devices for biologic and GLP 1 medications. The plant expands production capacity and supports the company’s partnership with Eli Lilly. CEO Ron Nagar said the site “marks a major step in strengthening our U.S. presence and ensuring we can meet the accelerating needs of healthcare providers, pharmacies, payors, and strategic partners.”

Anthro Energy Launches U.S. Electrolyte Manufacturing in Louisville (Kentucky)

Battery technology company Anthro Energy will invest $42.1 million in Louisville to build the first major U.S.-owned and operated advanced electrolyte manufacturing facility. The 110 job plant will produce electrolyte materials for next generation lithium ion batteries. Chief Technology Officer Joe Papp said “We’re grateful to have earned the Department of Energy’s approval and are excited to begin scaling production of our advanced electrolytes here in Kentucky, becoming part of a community deeply committed to innovation and world-class manufacturing.”

Creative 3D Technologies Relocates HQ and Expands Production (Texas)

Creative 3D Technologies moved its headquarters and expanded production operations to an 18,000 square foot facility in Cedar Park, Texas. The site will serve as the company’s research, development, and manufacturing hub, creating about 45 high skill jobs. Founder and CEO Ethan Baehrend praised the region’s supportive environment: “Moving our headquarters and production operations in Cedar Park gives Creative 3D Technologies the ability to really sprint… Cedar Park’s hands on support, the already well established ecosystem with a diverse set of talent, and the physical facility we’re moving to allow us to accelerate production operations and bring some exciting new technology to the world.”

DrinkPAK Builds 1.4 M sq ft Beverage Plant in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania)

Beverage manufacturer DrinkPAK will build a 1.4 million square foot manufacturing facility at the former Philadelphia Energy Solutions site. The project represents $195 million in investment and will create 174 direct jobs. CEO Nate Patena said the project solidifies the company’s leadership: “Our 1.4 million-square-foot Philadelphia location will continue to solidify DrinkPAK’s position as North America’s premier canned beverage manufacturer, with the ability to service our clients with any drink, any can, any format, and now, in any location.”

Swire Coca Cola Selects Colorado Springs for $475 Million Plant (Colorado)

Swire Coca Cola, USA will break ground on a 620,000 square foot bottling plant in Colorado Springs. The $475 million investment will create about 170 new jobs and pursue LEED Gold certification. Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Bryan Sink said the city’s skilled workforce and collaboration made it ideal: “Colorado Springs has been a great partner for our existing distribution facility where we employ 170 people. The city offers a highly skilled workforce and a strong sense of community—all of which make it an ideal location for this strategic investment.”

Pierce Manufacturing Invests Over $150 Million in Wisconsin Plants

Fire and emergency vehicle maker Pierce Manufacturing, part of Oshkosh Corporation, announced more than $150 million in upgrades across its Appleton, Wisconsin, operations, including advanced robotics and fabrication technologies. Executive Vice President Mike Pack said the company’s technology investments are reducing lead times and improving safety: ““These technologies reflect our dedication to continuous improvement and safety, as well as our commitment to delivering fire apparatus to firehouses faster while maintaining the same exceptional level of quality that defines our products…We have already reduced lead times by over three months from their peak. With these sustained investments, we are continuing to work to return to pre-pandemic lead times."

LS Cable & System Commits $689 Million to Chesapeake Manufacturing Complex (Virginia)

South Korea–based LS Cable & System Ltd. will invest $689 million to build a manufacturing complex in Chesapeake, Virginia, producing copper rod, magnet wire, and rare earth magnets. The project will create over 430 jobs and expand LS’s U.S. presence. President and CEO Bon Kyu Koo said the investment will strengthen domestic supply chains: “We’re not only expanding our manufacturing capabilities, we’re strengthening the U.S. domestic supply chains and supporting America’s leadership in energy and technology.”

Sanmina Builds Energy Equipment Factory in Houston (Texas)

Sanmina Corporation announced a major expansion of its energy business with a state of the art factory in Houston that will manufacture medium and high voltage transformers and switchgear. Chairman and CEO Jure Sola said the expansion aligns with the company’s competencies: “We are very pleased to announce this expansion of Sanmina's Energy-related business. We believe that the transmission, distribution and storage of electric power provides an excellent fit for Sanmina's core competences in engineering and manufacturing to deliver cutting-edge medium-voltage and high-voltage equipment."

Vollrath Company Starts $40 Million Expansion in Sheboygan (Wisconsin)

Commercial kitchen equipment maker Vollrath Company broke ground on a new 110,000 square foot manufacturing facility at its Sheboygan headquarters. The first phase, part of a multi year investment estimated at $40 million, will modernize production and consolidate operations. CEO Erik Lampe said the project is “transformational” and underscores commitment to the community: ““After 150 years in Sheboygan, we are making this substantial investment because we believe in the future of this community and the exceptional workforce that calls it home. Our current facility, built in 1912, has served us well, but to remain competitive and continue growing, we need to invest in modern infrastructure that allows us to streamline how we work, stay at the cutting edge of manufacturing technology, and make it even easier for customers to do business with us.”

GZ PrintPak Establishes 69,000 sq ft Plant in Wisconsin

Packaging company GZ PrintPak will invest $7.1 million to build a 69,000 square foot facility in Racine County, Wisconsin, to manufacture recyclable luxury paper bags. Chairman Peter Levenec expressed pride in the location: “We’re really proud to be here, because Wisconsin offers an ideal mix of workforce availability, infrastructure, and location advantages — enabling us to better serve our customers across North America.”

Coastal Ready Mix Establishes Ready Mix Concrete Plant (South Carolina)

Family owned Coastal Ready Mix is investing $4.6 million to build a ready mix concrete plant in Conway, South Carolina, creating 19 jobs. CEO Scott Askins said the expansion is both a business opportunity and a blessing: “"We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve Horry County, and we give thanks to God for opening this door for our family. We try to work hard, do what’s right and take care of the people who depend on us. Expanding into this community is a blessing, and we look forward to earning the trust of the contractors and customers we serve."
