This all sounds nice, but we understand it’s a lot of information to take in. You might be asking yourself; how will this change my day-to-day workflow, when I’ve been so used to the print directory all these years? Let’s take look at what you can expect based on the experiences of two users: “Print Directory Bob” and “IndustrySelect Nancy.”
Meet Bob and Nancy. Both are eager professionals looking to connect with manufacturers in Texas. Bob, a loyal fan of our Texas Manufacturers Register, waits eagerly for his print directory to arrive in early January. Nancy, also a print directory user, decides to try the Texas IndustrySelect Basic database. Let’s see how their days unfold.
9:00 a.m.
Bob:
Bob starts his morning with a cup of coffee and a workout (that is, lifting his 1,500-page Texas Manufacturers Register off the shelf). He flips through the pages, muttering, “A…H…K…ah, here it is—machinery.” Twenty minutes later, he’s still jotting down company names and addresses in his notebook.
Nancy:
Nancy logs into her Texas IndustrySelect Basic subscription from her laptop. She types in “chemical manufacturers” and “companies that need plastic sheeting” into the AI assistant, then selects a few ISO certifications she’d like them to have. In seconds, she has a new list of results, complete with executive names, emails, phone numbers, and locations.
10:00 a.m.
Bob:
Bob realizes he needs to narrow his search to companies with more than 50 employees. He flips to the back of the register, hoping the index will help, but it’s...limited. So, he heads back to the main listings, pulling out his trusty highlighter to mark anything that looks promising. But then he sees his highlighter has run out, so he heads out to Staples for supplies.
Nancy:
Meanwhile, Nancy adjusts her search filters to select companies with 50 or more employees. Her list instantly updates, showing only companies that meet her criteria. She goes on to target further, selecting companies that are specifically with a square footage over 100,000. Once she has her list, she saves it for later, and goes on to build another list, this time searching for companies just in the Dallas area. Later in the day, she’ll use the Lead Cloning tool to expand her list of prospects. With just a few clicks, she identifies 50 additional companies that closely resemble her ideal customer profile.
12:00 pm
Bob:
Back from Staples, Bob starts making calls, but not before scribbling down phone numbers from the directory. He’s already misdialed twice because he couldn’t read his own handwriting.
Nancy:
Nancy has picked out the contacts she’s most interested and exported them to her calendar. She has already had several calls with interested prospects and sent out a few introductory emails.
2 Weeks Later
Bob:
A few weeks later, Bob is still using the same directory. Unfortunately, one of the companies he’s trying to call has relocated, and another has changed leadership—but Bob won’t know that until next year’s edition.
Nancy:
Nancy logs into IndustrySelect again to check for updates to her list. Thanks to weekly data refreshes, she notices new leadership details for one company and a recently added distributor. She adjusts her outreach strategy accordingly.
One Month Later
Bob:
Bob has decided to visit a company he found in his outdated industrial directory. He lugs the Texas directory into his car and hits the road. But his notebook containing the address falls to the floor and as he slows down to quickly flip through the print directory, he gets rear-ended by a taxi. Once he and the taxi driver exchange insurance information, he sets back out, determined to salvage the day. But as he slowly crawls past a demolition zone, he realizes the company he’d planned to visit has gone out of business since he last purchased his directory. Precious time is wasted as he pulls over and pages through the directory once more, trying to find another lead to salvage his trip (and a band-aid for the papercut on his finger).
Nancy:
Nancy, on the other hand, has already planned her day with IndustrySelect. Using the platform's mapping feature, she’s plotted her target companies on Bing maps and optimized her route with driving directions. As she approaches her next stop, she pulls up the company profile on her smartphone to review some key details about the company. Not only does she arrive on time, but she also impresses her contact with her preparation and professionalism.
One Year Later
Bob:
After a year of wrestling with his Texas Manufacturers Register Bob receives an email introducing him to IndustrySelect Basic. Intrigued by the promise of real-time data and enhanced features (and the prospect of fewer paper cuts and fender-benders) he decides to give it a try.
He starts by signing up for a free demo account with IndustrySelect that provides him hundreds of real company profiles that are far more comprehensive than what he had with the book. Soon after, he's introduced to an account rep who grants him one-day access to the entire national database so he can really get a feel for what it offers.
The next day, he decides to purchase the IndustrySelect basic subscription for Texas and instead of waiting weeks for the print register to turn up at his doorstep, his subscription is turned on that afternoon so he can get to work. Being new to digital, he attends the free IndustrySelect webinar that’s led by a very nice gal named Kati and learns the basics. A few questions come up throughout that week, but he gets connected directly to his account rep who immediately provides assistance.
While Bob is reluctant to part with his dog-eared, banged-up, and heavily-highlighted Texas Manufacturers Register, in the end finds it makes a heckuva doorstop.
Nancy:
As Nancy's IndustrySelect subscription approaches its renewal date, she receives a notification reminding her to review her options. Aware that subscriptions do not auto-renew, she takes this opportunity to assess the IndustrySelect subscription options available to her.
Given that she was planning on a major email and direct mail campaign, she was enticed by the prospect of access to direct executive email, expanded export capabilities, and ability to print unlimited mailing labels, and decided to try out the Pro + version. Nancy anticipates an even more successful year, equipped with tools designed to streamline her workflow and amplify her sales efforts.
