Do IndustrySelect Company Profiles Include Corporate Hierarchy?

 100651_industryselectfiles_familytree

If you're prospecting into large industrial accounts, the company profile you're looking at may be just one piece of a larger corporate picture. A plant in Ohio might be a subsidiary of a parent company in Illinois. A regional distributor might share ownership with a dozen sister locations across the Southeast. When that's the case, knowing who owns what (and who else is in the family) can open up an entirely different level of opportunity.

The Family Tree View in IndustrySelect is built for exactly that. Every company profile in the database includes a Family Tree view that maps the corporate relationships above and below the current location. This allows you see the parent company, subsidiaries, and related locations at a glance, and move between them with a single click.

Available to all subscription tiers, the Family Tree View is IndustrySelect's version of what sales teams often call corporate hierarchy or account hierarchy data, all built on MNI's hand-verified industrial buiness intelligence. So if you’re looking for the parent company, subsidiaries, or related locations of a manufacturer you're researching, the Family Tree View is where to find it. You can see exactly what it looks like in this sample profile

Here's how to find it, read it, and put it to work.

What Is the Family Tree View?

The Family Tree View is a corporate hierarchy map built into every company profile in IndustrySelect. It shows you how the location you're currently viewing fits within a broader corporate structure: who owns it, and what other entities are connected to it.

Each node in the tree displays four data points:

  • Company name: The name of the entity at that location.
  • Location: City and state.
  • Primary SIC code: The Standard Industrial Classification code that identifies the company's primary industry or activity.
  • Employee count: The number of employees at that specific location (not the total enterprise headcount, unless noted).

Every node also includes a View Profile link. Clicking it opens the full IndustrySelect company profile for that entity, including executive contacts, firmographic data, product/service descriptions, and any additional data points available for that location.

Where to Find the Family Tree View

The Family Tree View is accessible directly from any company profile page in IndustrySelect. To open it:

  • Navigate to a company profile.
  • Look for the Family Tree View option in the toolbar or navigation at the top of the profile page.
  • Select it to load the hierarchy map for that location.

The tree will render with the current company highlighted, its parent company shown above (if one exists in the database), and any subsidiaries or related locations shown below.

How to Filter for Family Tree Companies Directly

If you want to build a prospect list made up exclusively of companies that are part of a corporate family structure, you don't have to sort through results manually. IndustrySelect's Location Types filter includes an "All Companies Part of a Family Tree" option that limits your results to exactly that: companies with a known parent, subsidiary, or related location relationship in the database.

To use it, open the Location Types filter in your search and select "All Companies Part of a Family Tree." Combine it with your other criteria, such as industry, geography, employee size, ownership type, and your results will reflect only multi-entity accounts where the Family Tree View is available and populated.

This is a fast way to build a targeted list of accounts where corporate hierarchy matters, without having to open individual profiles to find out whether a company is part of a larger structure.

How to Read and Navigate the Family Tree

The Family Tree View displays up to one level above and one level below the current location. That means:

  • One level up: The parent company or headquarters. This is the entity that owns or controls the current location.
  • One level down: Any subsidiaries, divisions, or related plant/branch locations that report to the current entity.

This structure is consistent across the database. If a company has many subsidiaries spread across multiple states, they will all appear as nodes below the parent in the tree when you are viewing from the parent's perspective.

Navigating to a different perspective

Because the tree only shows one level up and one level down at a time, the view you see depends on which location you're currently on. If you are viewing a plant-level subsidiary, you'll see its parent above and any locations below it. If you want to see the full picture from the parent's perspective (including all sibling locations and other subsidiaries) you navigate up.

To shift your vantage point:

  • Click View Profile on the parent company node (or any other node in the tree).
  • That opens the full profile page for that entity.
  • From the top of that profile, select Family Tree View to reload the tree from that location's perspective.

This navigation pattern lets you walk up and down the corporate hierarchy systematically, building a complete picture of the account even when it spans dozens of locations across the country.

Using the Family Tree for Account Expansion After an Initial Win

Closing a deal with one location of a multi-site manufacturer is the beginning of an opportunity, not the end of one. The Family Tree view is the fastest way to identify which other locations are part of the same corporate family, and to start building a pipeline across the full account.

Finding sister locations

Once you have a win at a plant or subsidiary, navigate to the parent company in the Family Tree and load the tree from that perspective. Every sibling location will appear as nodes at the same level as your existing customer. Each node links directly to a full profile with executive contacts, so you can identify the right person at each location and begin outreach with a warm story: you already work with their sister plant.

Expanding upward to corporate

A plant-level win also gives you a reference point for approaching the parent company. If you've delivered results at one location, the corporate team has a reason to listen. Use the Family Tree to navigate from the plant profile up to the parent company profile, identify the appropriate executive contacts there, and approach the corporate relationship with your existing track record in hand.

Tracking the full account footprint

For large enterprise accounts with many locations, the Family Tree view lets you build a systematic map of the account across your prospecting sessions. Work from the parent down, open each subsidiary profile, and use IndustrySelect's notes and list features to track which locations you've contacted, which are in progress, and which represent new opportunities.

Pro tip: Use IndustrySelect's Saved Notes feature on each company profile to log your outreach activity and context as you work through a multi-location account. Notes are visible to your team, so everyone can see where things stand.

The Bottom Line

Most B2B databases show you a company. IndustrySelect shows you where that company fits in a larger corporate picture. The Family Tree View turns a single prospect profile into a window into the full account structure: parent companies, plant locations, subsidiaries, and the executive contacts at each one.

Whether you're deciding where to make your first call, building a multi-location account strategy, or expanding a win across sister plants, the Family Tree gives you the map you need to move faster and with more context than a flat company list ever could.
