Henkel, a global provider of adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings announced that it has completed an expansion of its facility in Salisbury, North Carolina. Henkel reports the new expansion adds a new 10,000 square-foot, state-of-the art production facility, allowing the company to expand production of its UV curable acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA). Henkel also reports the expansion will allow more sustainable and innovative PSAs to be brought to the tape, label, medical and graphics films markets.
UV Curable Acrylic PSAs are designed to coat a range of facestocks, says Henkel, and serve all segments of traditional pressure sensitive markets. The company designs its own polymers for this purpose and provides many different types of curing systems. One type, unique to Henkel, is a cationic cured UV PSA, which is produced using a novel curing mechanism that cuts back on energy consumption by curing extremely high coat weights.
"The investment in Henkel's Salisbury operation has created a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to efficiently meeting the growing demand of our customers," said Gary Rzonca, Senior Vice President, Packaging and Consumer Goods, Henkel North America. "Henkel's UV-curable acrylic PSA technology expands our solvent-free hot melt production and bridges a market gap with an innovative alternative to solution acrylic adhesives, helping our customers achieve their sustainability objectives and creating new market opportunities with a customized approach. We are grateful for the support of our valued partners and our dedicated employees who have made this new facility a reality."
Henkel established the Salisbury facility in 2008 when it acquired the National Starch adhesives business. The facility encompasses 217,000 square feet of production space and employs 230. The company expects to add 20 jobs in 2023.
